Our story

The Pelisserie Evangelical Church is located at the heart of Geneva’s old town

At the beginning of the 19th century, a wind of spiritual renewal blew over Geneva. Men and women marked by this revival wanted a church that resembled that of the apostles.

Following the opposition of the ecclesiastical authorities, an independent community was established in Bourg de Four. From 1829 onwards, it met in the Pelisserie Chapel at number twenty of this street, whose premises were restored in 2004-2005.

The history of the Pelisserie church is closely linked to the revival in French-speaking Switzerland at the beginning of the 19th century. The Chapel was declared a listed monument, both historically and aesthetically, by decree of the Council of State on 13th  May 1992.

This building, built by the architect Jean-Louis Brocher, is characterised by its Tudor ogival style, which constitutes one of the first neo-Gothic buildings in Geneva.
